For this Bojangles pinto beans recipe, I follow the exact measurements used in the video. You can also increase or decrease the amount of the ingredients. Make sure the ingredients are adjusted according to the number of beans. Always season the pinto beans to taste.  


  • 10 cups of soaked pinto beans

  • 2 smoked turkey pieces 

  • 13 cups of water

  • ½ yellow Onion

  • 2 tbsp oil

  • 2 tbsp salt

  • 2 tbsp cumin

  • 6 garlic cloves

  • 1 tsp pepper

  • 1 tbsp paprika

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • Green onions for garnish

  • Tomato sauce for color and taste

  • Rinse the beans: Take out those Beans from the pot that split in half. You don’t have to do this if you don’t want to. Rinse the beans
  • Wash the pinto beans: Before boiling the beans, wash them with running water from the tap.

  • Soak the pinto beans: For cooking the pinto beans, you need to soak the beans for 24 hours. The soaking process of these beans is very important because you want to degas your beans, and you want to avoid a stomach ache.

  •  Arrange all the ingredients: To make your cooking process easy and smooth, you need to arrange all the ingredients together before starting your cooking. Remember, cooking the pinto beans is a lengthy process.

  • Add meat and bean: After 24 hours of soaking, you need to wash the bean again before cooking the bean. Then take a large pot, add smoked meat, and add 10 cups of soaked pinto beans.

  • Fill up the pot with water: Fill up the pot with 13 cups of water to cover 2 inches above the beans. Fill up the pot with water
  • Add Onion and garlic: Add 2 tbsp oil and 1 tbsp salt, ½ chopped yellow Onion, and 6 fresh chopped garlic cloves.

  • Boil the beans: Before placing your pot on the stove, make sure your stove is turned on high heat to bring your beans to a boil and then decrease the heat. You can also lid to the pot to speed up the boiling process. After 10 to 15 minutes of cooking, skim the foamy stuff out of the water.

  • Add the seasoning: After 30 minutes of cooking, build up the flavor of the beans by adding seasoning. Then decrease the stove heat, cover the pot with a lid, and let the beans slowly cook for three hours.

  • Add tomato sauce and sugar: After 2 hours of cooking, add tomato sauce to enhance the color of the beans. Then add some sugar to balance everything out.

  • Add green Onion: After two and a half hours, add little chopped green Onion and lightly stir the pot.

  •  Serve the pinto bean: After 3 hours of cooking, let the beans rest for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, take a serving plate and serve the pinto beans with cornbread, rice and noodles. You can sprinkle some sugar on top of the bean.
