Black garlic chicken is a delicious and healthy dish you can enjoy without any adverse side effects. And like other chicken dishes, this one is also easy to make and super delicious. 

All you need are some fresh garlic and black garlic cloves, bone-in chicken breast, and some spices. Afterwards, season the chicken, prepare the black garlic sauce, and finally, bake the chicken and sauce together.

  •  4-5 pounds (2-2.5 kg) bone-in chicken or whole chicken

  • 2 onion

  • 3 cloves garlic

  • 3 cloves black garlic

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil/vegetable oil

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil

  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce

  • 2 tablespoon oyster sauce

  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce

  • 1 tablespoon honey

  • Salt

  • Black Paper

how to make Black Garlic Chicken

  • Preheat The Oven: Before we proceed with the preparation let’s put the oven for preheating. Set the oven to 375 degrees and leave it for 10 minutes to preheat.

  •  Season The Chicken: To make this juicy chicken dish we will need a large oven-safe casserole dish. Now place the chicken pieces on the casserole, and season them with freshly grounded black pepper and salt. You can also season and mix the chicken in another mixing bowl and transfer them later into the casserole. 

    Now, keep it aside and lets proceed.

  •  Prepare The Sauce: In a large mixing bowl pour 1 tablespoon olive oil or vegetable oil, finely chopped or smashed 3 regular garlic cloves and black garlic cloves each. Give it a good mix and then pour 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tbsp hoisin sauce, 2 tablespoons oyster sauce, 1 tablespoon sesame oil, and 1 tablespoon honey for sweetness.
    Now, use a hand whisk and whisk on high speed to get a smooth sauce. If you don’t have a hand whisker, use a large spoon and mix well until everything mixed and smooth. Then pour all the sauce over the seasoned chicken and toss to coat well.
     Prepare The Sauce
  • Bake The Chicken: Its time to bake the chicken in sauce. Place the oven-safe casserole dish in the preheated oven, and bake for 20 minutes at the same heat. After 20 minutes, increase the heat to 450 degrees and let it simmer for 10 minutes. 
    Once 10 minute up, take out the dish, flip the chicken on the other side, and coat this side with the remaining sauce and juices in the pan. 
    Now put the casserole again in the oven and broil for another 10 minutes.  After time is up, our chicken is almost there. We just need to let the black garlic roast chicken get cooked properly for another 20 minutes, reducing the heat to 325 degrees.
    Bake The Chicken
  • Garnish and Serve: Take out the casserole from the oven and let it chill for a few minutes. You can serve it in the casserole, no need to transfer in any other serving bowl. Spread green onions or some parsley or spinach for garnishing. Then take as much as chicken pieces you need in the plate pairing with noodles, steamed rice, fried rice, boiled veggies, salad etc. whatever you like. I love to eat this chickens with dumplings or wontons as well.

  • Ensure you are using an oven-proof casserole dish, as we will put this dish in the oven.
  • Make a few cuts on the chicken pieces and rub the seasoning with gentle hand to ensure black garlic marinade is perfect. 
  • If you want the dish to be on the sweeter side, add extra one tablespoon of honey. And to enjoy real flvaor of garlic and sweetness of garlic you can totally skip adding the honey.
  • Don’t forget to pour the de-fat pan juices over the chicken, most of the flavor is in it.
