Ingredients For Dumplings

  • All-purpose flour 2 cups 

  • Baking powder 2 teaspoons

  • Salt ½ teaspoon 

  • Whole milk 1 cup 

  • Vegetable oil ¼ cup

  • Water 2 quarts 

  • Chicken bouillon 3  cubes

  • Sauce:
  • Butter 3 tablespoons

  • Salt 1 teaspoon

  • All-purpose flour ¼ cup

  • Sugar ½ teaspoon 

  • Buttermilk 1 cup 

  • Chicken  bouillon 2  cubes

  • Dumpling  cooking liquid ½ to ¾ cup

  • Make The Dough: Mix together the all purpose flour, baking powder, salt, milk, and oil. On a floured work surface. Knead the dough four or five times.

  •  Cut In Dumpling Size: Take your dough and divide the dough in half.  Roll the one half of the dough to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut the dough into 1 x 1½-inch pieces.

  •  Cook The Dumplings: Pour water and bouillon cubes/soup base in a big pot. Bring it to a boil until the bouillon cubes are completely dissolved. Cook until half of the dumplings are almost done. When the dumplings float to the top of the saucepan, they are done. Remove them to a bowl with a strainer and set away. In the same manner, finish the remaining half of the dumplings. Keep the cooking liquid aside.

Combine the sugar and milk in a mixing bowl. Add the milk a little at a time to the flour mixture, whisking continually until thick and smooth. Remove the sauce from the heat and set it aside.
