Joanna Gaines Fatayer Recipe

Have you ever had a craving for something buttery, salty, and warm but was not sure what to make? That can be solved by Joanna Gaines. The dish, which Gaines prepared on the debut episode of her cookery program Magnolia Table, is a traditional Lebanese meat pie that will please any appetite.

What is Fatayer?

Savory pies are called fatayer. They are often filled with cheese, spinach, or a meat filling. Similar to Lahm Bi Ajeen’s meat filling, but in the form of tiny hand pies. Both the spinach and the cheese in this dish are quite simple to create.

The spinach fatayer, also known as fatayer bi sabanekh in Arabic, is incredibly tangy and flavorful, and the caramelized onions add a beautiful dimension to the dish.

The cheese-flavored ones, known as fatayer bi jibneh, are particularly exceptional because they feature a delicious blend of creaminess, stretchiness, and nigella seed flavor.

What is in a Beef Fatayer?

The fatayer is made of a filling that is wrapped in dough and baked. The most popular are the meat fillings known as Sfeeha, that are made of lamb or beef, and Sabanekh is made of spinach.

Also possible is cheese fatayer. They are a lovely appetizer or starter. The ingredients for this pie are actually part of a spice mixture called Baharat, but I’ve broken it down for you so you don’t need to prepare a large quantity of the blend to make this recipe.

Well I was first a little worried that making these savory pastries might be too difficult for my level of cooking skill. But I was pretty shocked by how easy they were to put together. The outer pastry is prepared from flour, and the fatayer filling you can make by simply frying a few ingredients in a pan.

It only takes a few simple steps to roll, fill, and close the dough because it has already been divided into portions. When all of the fatayer have been made and thus are ready for the oven.
